| King’s
Cross Estates Action Public Realm Strategy
Client - London Borough of Camden |
This area of King’s
Cross was once infamous. Drug dealing, drug taking, prostitution
and a physically unsafe environment combined to produce an inner
city area with many perceived, as well as real, problems.
Through a process of community, council and police involvement,
Tibbalds developed an urban landscape strategy and then implemented
it, in association with Gardner Stewart Architects. This transformed
the area so that public spaces are public again - children play
in safety and streets are vibrant and well lit.
The project involved:
| •
|
a
successful DoE Estate Action bid; |
| • |
preparing
an area-wide concept and design guide document for two adjoining
Councils; |
| • |
substantial
community involvement throughout the design process; and |
| • |
the
design and implementation of all public spaces, including
streets, squares, play areas and gardens. |
