The network of streets and spaces, the pattern of uses and activity, and the quality of design, detail and materials in each space all contribute to the character and quality of the public realm and of the place as a whole. A strategic approach to public realm design allows individual projects to be designed and implemented as and when funding becomes available, with confidence that each will play a clearly identified role in making a more successful place.
