new planning system demands new spatial planning policy documents.
Ilford Metropolitan Centre Area Action Plan was one of the first
Town Centre Area Action Plans to be prepared in London.
Tibbalds led a multi-disciplinary team to produce the spatial strategy
and framework for the Town Centre.
The initial stages involved working closely with the client team
to establish a clear brief for the project that identified what
was required to comply with the new planning legislation.
The Ilford Area Action Plan is design-led rather than being solely
policy orientated. It communicates a clear vision for future development
and also sets out practical steps to achieve that vision. The Greater
London Authority is using it as an example of good practice under
the new planning regime.
