Nene Waterfront, Wisbech

Client - Fenland District Council

Waterfront sites in the Georgian town of Wisbech had been vacant for over 20 years. The Council’s aspiration was for a high quality mixed use development with port related employment, new housing and some retail and other mixed uses.

Tibbalds initially assessed the potential for development and came up with a regeneration strategy, tested in terms of design, planning, feasibility and viability. This was adopted as Supplementary Planning Guidance. We then provided input to bids for external funding, which secured £10 million to address technical issues including contamination and flood defences.

We are now involved in the implementation of the project, including submitting an outline planning application, land acquisitions and Compulsory Purchase Orders, site clean up, the implementation of a programme of early works and the process of selecting a development partner.
