Senior or Associate Town Planner
(5 years’ experience)
At Tibbalds, we put people at the heart of places. We want to shape healthier, more resilient places that put people first and we’re hiring a Senior or Associate level Town Planner to join our independent, employee-owned London based practice.
About Tibbalds: We are an employee-owned practice based in Southwark, working on a rich range of projects for private and public sector clients. What sets us apart from other practices is our strong development planning function within a design-focused practice. We’re motivated by the delivery of high-quality design and place-making, for the benefit of the people who will use our projects. We believe that good placemaking is the product of good planning, policy, and design. Our expertise lies in these three areas.
About you: Applicants should meet the following minimum requirements:
- RTPI accredited degree;
- RTPI accreditation;
- A minimum of five years’ planning experience; and
- Experience of housing or regeneration focused development management projects.
Experience within a consultancy is preferred, but not essential.
It is important that you are interested in promoting good design through the planning process. We are looking for planners with a sound understanding of planning policy and development management to advise clients and design teams on proposals.
You will be enthusiastic and creative, with excellent research, communication and writing skills. You will show aptitude to think strategically and look for positive solutions to planning challenges.
The opportunity: The role is focused mainly on development planning, supporting existing projects and finding new ones. Our planners also regularly work alongside our urban designers and architects to provide advice on our Masterplanning and design projects. The main duties of the role will involve:
- Undertaking and overseeing research and analysis
- Working with clients to advise them on key planning issues affecting their projects
- Working with design teams to resolve planning issues through positive and collaborative working with a ‘can do’ attitude
- Preparing planning appraisals, strategies and applications
- Supporting post planning approval work such as discharge of conditions and amendment applications
- Writing reports and making recommendations
- Liaising and negotiating with planning officers and consultees
- Being involved in research and best practice work
Our development planning projects are diverse, including residential infill projects, complex mixed-use urban schemes, innovative commercial spaces, estate regeneration programmes, large urban extensions and new communities. We have an excellent client base and an expanding list of rewarding projects.
We offer a hybrid way of working with full time team members expected to work a minimum of three days per week in the office. We expect team members to be adaptable in terms of working arrangements to meet the demands of our projects. We like to collaborate as a team and recognise the benefits of doing this in person.
We offer a range of CPD and employee benefits and will offer a competitive salary to match your skills and experience. As an employed owned business, all staff have a role in shaping how we operate.
How to apply:
Please send the following to darren.smith@tibbalds.co.uk by 31 October 2025:
- a CV and covering letter setting out how you meet the key criteria for the role; and
