Job title: Town Planners
Job description: We have an exciting opportunity for town planners at the start of their career to join our award winning, multidisciplinary team of planners, urban designers and masterplanners.
We are an employee owned practice based in Southwark, working for a wide range of private and public sector clients on an eclectic mix of projects. What sets us apart from other practices is our strong development planning function within a design-focused practice. We’re motivated by the delivery of high quality design and place-making, so it’s important that you are interested in promoting good design through the planning process. We are looking for planners with a sound understanding of planning policy and how it needs to be interpreted in order to advise clients and design teams on proposals.
Applicants should meet the following minimum requirements, experience within a consultancy environment is preferred but not essential:
- RTPI accredited degree;
- a minimum of one year’s experience preferably in a consultancy environment; and
- working towards their APC.
The role is focused on development planning for a wide range of private and public sector clients, mainly based in London and the south east, on an eclectic mix of projects. Our planners also work alongside our urban designers and architects to provide advice on in-house masterplanning projects, and we’re always interested in applicants who have an aptitude for spatial and/or policy planning. The main duties of the role will involve:
- Working with clients to advise them on key planning issues affecting their projects
- Working with design teams to resolve planning issues through positive and collaborative working arrangements
- Preparing planning appraisals for sites and buildings
- Preparing planning applications and planning statements
- Supporting post planning work such as reserved matters applications, discharge of planning conditions and amendment applications
- Writing reports and making recommendations
- Liaising with planning officers
- Undertaking research and analysis
Our development planning projects are diverse, including residential infill projects, complex mixed-use urban schemes, innovative commercial spaces, estate regeneration programmes, large urban extensions and new communities. We have an excellent client base and an expanding list of rewarding projects.
You will be enthusiastic and creative, with excellent research, communication and writing skills. You will show aptitude to think strategically and look for positive solutions to planning issues. We will expect you to have a good grasp of the development management process, and an analytical approach to current and emerging planning policy.
We currently work in a hybrid way with full time team members expected to work a minimum of two days per week from the office. We expect team members to be adaptable in terms of working arrangements in order to meet the demands of our projects.
We offer a range of CPD and employee benefits and will offer a competitive salary to match your skills and experience.
Please send a CV and covering letter setting out how you meet the key criteria for the role to darren.smith@tibbalds.co.uk
